Objectives

  • Define the terms related to the LGBTQ+ community, with a particular emphasis on those who are transgender and gender non-conforming
  • Recognize the types of gender-affirming medical interventions transgender and gender non-conforming persons may undergo as well as the physiological changes that may occur during gender-affirming treatment.
  • Recall many of the social and environmental stressors persons who identify as transgender and nonconforming persons may experience, particularly those with HIV.
  • Describe opportunities to improve access and quality of health care for transgender and gender nonconforming patients with and without HIV.
