Objectives
- List current District of Columbia resources and guides including the DHCF/DC DUR Boards “A Collaborative Approach for Safe USE of Opioids”, and DC Health’s Pocket Guideline for Prescribing Opioid for Chronic Pain to reduce patient harm from opioids
- Identify one aspect of opioid use from the aforementioned resource guides that promotes best practices and/or key facets of the medication use process including prescribing, preparation/dispensing, administration, monitoring, and patient education
- Given a pertinent case study where a patient’s opioid prescription utilization suggests overprescribing, misuse and/or abuse, outline two opportunities for strategic improvements to reduce patient harm
- Describe the role of health care professionals and/or relevant organization(s) to advance opioid stewardship in the care of patients and public health.
